Aqua Aerobics
or Aquatic Fitness classes are
aerobic-and-conditioning workouts carried out in a water medium.
They usually consist of a
variety of exercise techniques and movements derived from both land aerobics
and other land-based exercises, and may
involve the use of flotation devices.
Aqua Exercises have many of the
benefits of exercising on land: such as improving one's cardiovascular
condition and muscular fitness. On top of that, it has the added advantage
of having a lower risk of muscle and joint injuries - compared to land-based
exercises - due to the buoyancy and protective effects of water.
Furthermore, there is a reduced
risk of overheating of the body (due to heat stress, heat stroke etc.)
during exercise in a water medium because of the cooling effect of water
on the Human Body.
